Easy Savoury Snacks To Make & Enjoy

Sometimes, we all need a snack inbetween mealtimes to keep hunger pangs at bay. But, in the New Year when many of us are looking to cut back on sweet treats and eat a little healthier, it’s easier said than done to find tasty snacks that are easy to prepare and enjoy on the go, as well as being healthy.

We’ve got some easy savoury snacks to make and enjoy so that the next time you feel those snacking cravings or just need a little something extra, you can enjoy these without compromising on your healthy eating plans.

Spanish Tortilla

Spanish tortillas are a classic dish that are very versatile and quick to make. They can be served hot or cold, so are perfect for adding to lunch boxes or for grabbing a quick slice when you’re on the go. If you have any fridge leftovers, such as mushrooms, peppers, cooked meats and cheeses, then these can be added in – they all taste great, so don’t be afraid to experiment with different flavours.

Spanish tortillas are one of the best easy savoury snacks you can make and can be made a few days in advance. All you need is 300g of potatoes, preferably waxy potatoes such as new potatoes or the red varieties, 1 diced onion, a glug of olive oil and 5 large eggs, as well as any flavourings or fillings you want to add.

Peel the potatoes and cut them into thin slices and pat dry with a clean tea towel. Peel and slice the onion and drizzle 2 tablespoons of oil into a frying pan over a medium heat, adding the onions and potatoes. Turn the heat down and cook for 25-30 minutes, or until the potatoes are cooked through. In a separate bowl, crack the eggs and season with salt and pepper, then whisk together using a fork.

When the potatoes and onion are cooked, remove from the heat and tip into the whisked egg mixture, along with your choice of fillings, and then transfer back into the frying pan and, over a low heat, cook for 20 minutes. Then, use a spatula or fish slice to loosen the sides and carefully flip the pan over onto a plate, then add back into the pan and cook for a further 5 minutes until cooked through.

Homemade Chicken Kebabs

They can be enjoyed on their own, added to salads, used on flatbreads or dipped into delicious homemade tapenades or dips. To make, simply marinate the chicken in your choice of our Regal Foods delicious marinades, add to a skewer and cook under the grill, then enjoy this simple and easy savoury snack!

Spicy Butternut Hummus

When you’re hungry, often you don’t need a big snack or something calorie heavy. Instead, just a quick and easy savoury snack that you can eat in no time is all you need. If you want to enjoy something a little different to the traditional hummus, then why not give this spicy butternut hummus a try! All you need is ½  a butternut squash peeled and diced, 3 garlic cloves, 2 tbsp olive oil, 3 tbsp tahini, 1 tbsp of chilli oil, paste or similar (why not try our Kebab House Chilli Sauce) and a can of chickpeas.

First, heat the oven to 180º and put the butternut squash and garlic cloves into a roasting dish, season and add 100ml of water. Cover with foil and bake for around 45 minutes, until tender, and leave to cool. Add the squash and juices into a food processor or blender, then squeeze the garlic from their skins to the mixture. Add the remaining ingredients and blend, until a smooth paste. Add to a bowl and drizzle with some extra chilli oil, paste or chilli sauce and serve with our Regal Foods wholemeal pitta breads
